Do you recall the old Paul Simon song, "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover"? I have updated the song for today's world (and to account for inflation):
Just slip on a pack, Jack / Jump off the New span, Stan
Stay away from that grizz, Liz / Pay attention to me
Hop on the tour bus, Gus / Don't make no big fuss
Just cruise on the bay, Kay / I know you'll agree
Yes, there must be 60 Ways to See Your National Parks!
When my job fell prey to Covid-19 recession, I found myself with spare time and an urge to do something memorable. How about a challenge: come up with 60+ unique (and unusual!) experiences to undertake in each of the 63 National Parks. Given the crush of visitors to the National Parks in this post-lockdown world, it seemed a timely exercise - a way to avoid the most crowded sites of the 'Crown Jewel' parks, and to publicize the less-visited parks across the country.
The goal: blog about the preparations, and expound on the experiences once I start visiting the parks next spring. When I finally finish, I intend to write a book on the journey, detailing the beauty of our public lands and the story of the people - the rangers, staff, outfitters, trekkers, volunteers, and visitors that make the parks special.
